I felt like I was an outsider when it came to the "fur baby" club. I love animals, but my life was unpredictable. When I found Gracie my initial reaction was to search for someone who had a significant amount of experience taking care of neonatal/infant kittens. I had no experience with animals, let alone such a small one. Unsuccessful in finding this person, the recommendation of others was to consider a shelter. My immediate thought was "she will never survive in a shelter". So my mind was made up. She was going to stay with me despite my inexperience. I read as much as I could about how to care for her. How frequently to feed, how much weight should she gain each week, how to keep her warm, etc. I had no idea that Kitten Milk Replacer exists, that kittens require a heat source up to a certain age or that they can suddenly pass from Fading Kitten Syndrome.
Here she is her first night in the little box I made for her with heating pad (turned on low) and should you find yourself in this situation you will want to provide an area in the box without the heat source to allow the kitten to move away if too hot.
